How Can I Get a Visa for Travel to Italy?

Who did not dream to visit Italy? The country has much to offer - ancient history, beautiful scenery, friendly people, sun and, of course, the wine excellent and the food even more excellent. If you are a U.S. citizen, it is particularly easy to get to, you do not need a tourist visa if you intend to stay for less than 90 days. However, if you are from a country that requires a visa, or if you are planning on an American staying more than 90 days, here what you need to get a tourist visa.

Make sure you have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum period of 3 months from your date of entry into Italy. In this way, the Italian authorities will know that you have the right to return to your country after your visa expires.
 
Get recent color photo of yourself. The photos must be passport size (2 by 2 inches) and show your full face forward. 

Prepare proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses while in Italy. Appropriate evidence includes recent bank statements, credit card statements showing an amount covered extensively or other financial statements.
 
Get proof of employment. You must be willing to provide a receipt dated and signed letter from your employer stating your title and salary and holiday / full-time leave was approved. The letter must be on company letterhead. If you are self-employed, you must provide proof such as a certificate of incorporation or recent tax return.
 
Gather proof that you have health insurance that will cover you abroad. You should have a letter from your health insurance company stating that you are covered for emergency medical expenses, including repatriation costs, if any, for medical reasons.
 
Completing an Italian visa. It should be signed in the presence of an agent of the Italian Consulate.
 

Get proof that you deposit while in Italy. If you are staying in a hotel, be prepared to provide written proof of your booking (your name must be listed on the application).
 
Submit all the documents mentioned above, plus an extra copy, the nearest Italian consulate. You may also be required to present your return ticket at this point, but according to the Consulate, you may be allowed to display this message when you pick up your passport with the visa. Be prepared to pay for visa processing at the moment. It usually costs around $ 80 to $ 100.
 
Wait 2-12 days for the visa to be processed. When you are notified that your application has been approved, return to the Italian consulate / embassy to get your passport stamped.
 
Join the Police (Police Headquarters) in 8 days after your arrival in Italy. You must obtain a "Permesso di soggiorno" (Declaration of stay of foreigners). Also, be prepared to show a new health insurance policy that will cover you in case of a medical emergency for the duration of your stay.
